Brooklands Museum is fast-becoming a well-known attraction across the country and internationally too, thanks to its frequent appearances on national television and recent documentary series, ‘Secrets of the Transport Museum’.  

It’s also a been a visitor-favourite this summer, as thousands of people descended on Brooklands over the summer to enjoy the return of their famous events and visit the brand-new exhibition, McLaren: Driven by design; featuring the stunning concept and prototype Senna cars and full-scale LEGO 720s replica.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit since the Museum reopened earlier this year, make sure you put a date in your diary to see what all the excitement is about. With the final events of the season still to come, and plenty of family fun to be had during half-term, there will be something for everyone this autumn.

October events include the long-awaited Mini Day, which commemorates the iconic car brand by inviting as many of them that have been saved by their dedicated owners as possible to Brooklands for a day of classic Mini fun.

Following that is one of the biggest events of the year at Brooklands. In association with Auto Italia magazine, Italian car day celebrates the UK’s obsession with all things Italian. Expect the site to bursting with all makes of Italian cars and motorbikes too!

Half term week kicks off with the London Bus Museum’s Transportfest – a spectacle of many types of commercial transport. Featuring extensive bus displays, including rarely-seen early examples, as well as other popular forms of commercial transport such as taxis, military and emergency vehicles, with vintage bus-rides thrown in for good measure. The rest of the week takes you back to the early days of aviation, when Brooklands pioneered aircraft and pilot training, with their ‘Come Fly with Us’ family workshops, activities and tours. There’s also the famous vintage car rides up Test Hill and around the banked race circuit which are not to be missed!

The final event of the season is Military vehicles day, bringing together scores of military vehicles spanning the decades and representing the field of conflict from around the world.  From the nimble jeep to amoured personnel carriers and huge engineering trucks, Military vehicles day is a chance to get-up close and see some of them in action.

So, as the nights grow darker and we head into the final days of autumn, why not take a stroll around the historic grounds, where the autumnal coloured trees and hazy afternoon sun create an atmosphere that transports you back in time to the glory days of record-setting and social activity the place used to be buzzing with.

The Museum is easily accessible by car or train, parking is free and there’s plenty of picnic space available, and a café to purchase food and drink.
