Kayleigh left her career in banking and is now fostering a 15 year old girl. She decided to change direction and become a highly valued Foster Carer for Dorset Council because she wanted to make a difference and help others.

Kayleigh said: “This is literally the happiest I’ve ever been. I’ve gained another family member for life. My foster daughter has integrated so well, she is a good kid and just needed a fresh start.”

Dorset Council urgently needs to find more brilliant foster carers for Dorset teenagers.

Kayleigh, who has a four-year-old daughter, has never looked back, she said: “I’m so glad I made the decision to become a Foster Carer. I enquired because I wanted to spend more time with my daughter and make a difference to a young person’s life.

“My foster daughter is part of the family, she and my daughter call each other sisters and they have a great relationship. Of course, it hasn’t all been easy.  We’ve been together a year now and there’ve been some challenges along the way. But over the past year my foster daughter has become so much more confident, I’m proud of her and how she has managed everything. I haven’t looked back since I started fostering. It’s been the best choice I’ve ever made. Dorset Council provides support, it is paid, and I have enjoyed meeting other carers.”

We welcome enquiries from people from all walks of life 

Dorset Council’s Foster Carers come from a wide range of cultures, ages and ethnic groups. We’d love more enquiries from people from all backgrounds, people who are single, LGBTQ+, retired, in a civil partnership, living together, have pets, rent their homes and so on! All you need is love, energy and a spare room.

Great support and allowances of up to £590 a week

Dorset Council provides support, training and fostering allowances of up to £590 a week, depending on a child’s needs.
