Students, staff and parents are celebrating following an excellent set of academic and vocational results achieved by Colston’s Upper Sixth Formers…

 Following the Government’s promise that this year’s results would sit between the last set of “normal” results from 2019 and the TAGs (Teacher Assessed Grades) of 2021, Colston’s are delighted that grades have exceeded this expectation. 

Due to the determined effort and resilience shown by these Upper Sixth students, coupled with the incredible support provided by their teachers, the headline results demonstrate that Colston’s A Level, CTEC and BTEC students have risen to all their challenges and have once again excelled: 

• • 54% of A Level grades were awarded at A/A* 
• • 80% of A Level grades were awarded at A*/B 
• • 47% of CTEC and BTEC grades were awarded at Starred Distinction / Distinction (the equivalent of A*/A at A Level) 
• • 24 students (30% of the cohort) achieved the equivalent of AAA or better. 
• • 90% of university applicants secured their first-choice university courses 

Colston’s Head, Mr Jeremy McCullough, said: “We are aware that this cohort have been anxiously waiting for these results, their first set of actual public examinations having had their GCSEs cancelled, and so it has been a delight to see so many happy faces this morning. 

 “By dint of their hard work, and the wonderful support they have received from their families and their teachers, they have achieved grades that reflect their ability and effort. We are delighted that the vast majority of them have secured their first-choice university course and a number have secured access to competitive apprenticeships.” 

Mr McCullough continued: “Our approach has never been to focus solely on education as a means to achieving examination results. Our holistic approach to school life means that our young people’s learning extends far beyond the narrow confines of any exam syllabus. This has been particularly important during Covid and we are pleased that they will have picked up a great many other personal qualities, such as resilience and determination, that will stand them in good stead for the future.”
