MARLBOROUGH: Top GCSE Grades show ‘Calne Girls Can’

St Mary’s Calne students have once again achieved a superb set of GCSE and IGCSE Level results, with 35% of the results graded 9.

The girls all worked incredibly hard and fully deserve their excellent results. A special mention goes to local students Izzy Albery (Marlborough), Celestine Cheung (Calne), Ophelia James (Shrivenham) and to Aurora Ma, who all received a clean sweep of 11 grade 9s!

Many congratulations also to our Foundation Scholars*, who both did exceptionally well,  including Hannah Clargo, who achieved an average grade of 8.6 in her 11 GCSEs.

Above, Aurora Ma, Izzy Albery and Marybi Ashu, who all achieved exceptional grades

We are also delighted that Marybi Ashu, who joined St Mary’s Calne through the SpringBoard Foundation as a Scholar, achieved an average of 8.2 in her 10 GCSEs. We are very proud to be working with The Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation, a social mobility charity which works across the UK’s boarding and independent schools sector to expand the number of bursary places, ensuring they are targeted towards young people who need them most.

The GCSE results were also very impressive in terms of value being added. Some pupils achieved three grades higher than expected, an incredible achievement, and testament to both the girls’ dedication and their teachers’ guidance. Overall, on average pupils achieved over one grade higher than expected.

Head, Dr Felicia Kirk, commented:

“Congratulations to all of the students on these very well deserved results. The girls have, like their peers around the country, faced a particularly challenging couple of years, but they have overcome obstacles and focused on what they would like to achieve, demonstrating incredible resilience along the way. I have also been impressed by how they have embraced all of the co-curricular opportunities open to them at St Mary’s, maintaining a healthy balance between their studies and interests beyond the classroom. My thanks go to all of the staff, both academic and pastoral, who have supported the girls and enabled them to gain these results. I wish all the girls continued success as they move up into
St Mary’s Sixth Form.”

* Foundation Scholarships are offered to gifted and talented pupils who require financial support to join St Mary’s Calne.
