St Mary’s Calne is very proud of this year’s Leavers, who have experienced a tough and unprecedented couple of years…

As the students were unable to sit their GCSEs, these A Levels were the first external assessments they had taken, and we are delighted by their resilience and by their very impressive, well-earned results with over a quarter of all grades awarded being A*s.

Other statistics which reflect the students’ outstanding achievements are:

• 13% of the students achieved straight A*s
• 43% of the students achieved A*-As
• 92% of the grades awarded are A*-B.

The girls will be heading off to a wide range of leading universities including Oxford, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Courtauld Institute of Art, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Imperial College London, Loughborough, Newcastle, UCL and York. In addition, students are holding offers for top international universities in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Spain and the USA.

The students will be studying a broad range of subjects including Architecture, Biology, Business and Management, Classics, Computer Science, Engineering with Architectural Design, English, Film and Television Production, Fine Art, History of Art, Law, Materials Science and Engineering, Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy and Theology, Psychology and Sport and Exercise Science.

Congratulations to all of the students who have worked exceptionally hard to gain their places at these universities, and a special mention to the following students who have been awarded places at Oxford University: Isabella Donald to read English at New College, Catriona Hay to read Modern Languages at Exeter College and Lydia Metaxa to read Modern Languages at Oriel College. Further afield, we are delighted that Rosie George has been offered a place at Cornell University, part of the prestigious Ivy League.  

Over half of the year group chose to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with fantastic results – 53% being awarded A*s. The EPQ allows students to demonstrate their ability to pursue independent study and helps them to develop critical thinking, project management and research skills which prepare them well for the next stage of their education at university.

Good luck to all of our Leavers as they move on to the next stage of their education, and I hope that they come back to visit us in Calne in the future to inspire other students.”
