EDUCATION: Princess Royal visits Taunton School
The Princess Royal officially opens new dining room at Taunton School
The Princess Royal travelled to Taunton to meet students and staff, and formally opened its new state-of-the-art dining room and kitchens.
The Princess Royal was introduced to Taunton School Headmaster Lee Glaser and Chief Operating Officer Nicola Miller, before speaking with the Head Boy and Girl from the Prep and Senior and International Schools.
Her Royal Highness also met representatives from the Taunton School Combined Cadet Force, the largest contingent of any school in the South West, and stepped inside the Chapel to listen to a performance by the Chamber Choir.
The Princess Royal visited the Design and Technology department, where Her Royal Highness spoke to students about their work and heard about the school’s initiatives to get girls involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects.
The finale of The Princess Royal’s visit was Her Royal Highness’ tour of the new Dining Room where students and staff from all year groups gathered to see Her Royal Highness unveil a plaque commemorating the occasion.
The visit was meticulously planned by staff at Taunton School to ensure Covid safety measures were adhered to, including social distancing and the wearing of facemasks and use of hand sanitiser.
Lee Glaser, Taunton School Headmaster, said, “We were absolutely thrilled to welcome The Princess Royal to Taunton School today. We were very pleased to show Her Royal Highness around our new dining room – a project we’re proud to have completed during a very challenging year. It was wonderful to share with Her Royal Highness our vision for the dining room as a place where our students can spend quality time relaxing with their friends and an invaluable facility for our local community.”
