HORSHAM: Horsham Star Back to his Home Town as Aladdin this Christmas!
The Capitol Horsham is delighted to confirm that Toby Miles will take the lead role in this year’s family pantomime, Aladdin which as in previous years, will be one of their own in-house productions.
Toby trained at The Arts Educational School and is currently playing Sky in the UK & International Tour of Mamma Mia!. His professional debut as Marius in Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre London lead to a nomination for The Stage Debut Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Other credits include The Olivier Awards (Royal Albert Hall) and Friday Night is Music Night (BBC).
Toby said “I grew up in Horsham, spending lots of time at The Capitol. It’s great to have come full circle and be returning to the venue where I made my on-stage debut aged 8!”
This year the show has a brand new Production Team which will give the show an extra dimension. The team includes Zoë Waterman as Director and Morgan Brind providing the script.
Zoë, a freelance theatre director currently working on new writing and revivals of existing plays graduated in 2006 with an MFA in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck College. She won the New Wimbledon Theatre’s Emerging Director Award in 2007 and has an extensive experience of writing for pantomime and other productions, having worked on Jack & the Beanstalk, Dick Whittington, Sleeping Beauty – the Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto (Theatr Clwyd, Mold), Cinderella, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty and Jack & The Beanstalk (Loughborough Town Hall), The Rise and Fall of Little Voice & Remarkable Invisible (Theatre By The Lake, Keswick), Intemperance, Table & Playhouse Creatures (New Vic, Stoke) and 2023(Chapter Arts, Cardiff) She was an Associate Director of the New Vic Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent 2018-19.
Morgan is a Bristol Old Vic trained actor and a highly accomplished dame who is also a critically acclaimed writer and designer. For the past four years Morgan has been writer, dame, designer and producer of the annual panto in Loughborough, with the last production of Cinderella breaking all box office records and three awards at the first Great British Pantomime Awards under his belt – Pantomime of the Year, Best Staging & Set and Best Script. Other credits include production of Jack & The Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty and Aladdin, with previous shows gaining 5* reviews from The Stage as ”perfect family panto, the very best of its kind” and “fresh, cohesive and riotously funny”.
Together they will bring a spectacular show to The Capitol’s stage to melt away the memories of all the challenges presented by the pandemic.
Aladdin opens on Friday 3 December 2021 and runs until Friday 31 December with a relaxed performance at 5pm on Tuesday 14 December and special performances for schools on Friday 3, Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 December.
