TRAVEL: Wild Swimming locations in the UK

With staycations on the rise and the long summer holidays to enjoy, adventurous Brits are being directed to the best wild swim spots here in the UK...

Wild swimming has become increasingly popular over recent months and the experts at LeaseCar.uk have looked at the best locations to take a dip which are just a short drive away.

For those unfamiliar with the activity, wild swimming refers to swimming in natural waters like lakes and rivers.

They’re perfect for those living in landlocked parts of the UK and swimmers prepared to face the chill and thrill of an outside dip.

Not all areas of natural waters allow people to go swimming though, so it’s worth checking before you take a swim.

Regardless of the weather it’s important to remember that the water in these wild swimming locations remains cold which can be a safety hazard. Because of this, it’s important to gauge the temperature of the water before jumping in to avoid your body going into shock.

It’s also vital to keep an eye out on what’s in the water. Remember these are natural bodies of water which means they won’t be entirely clean. You should look out for things like rocks and other debris that can pose a threat to all swimmers.

A spokesperson from LeaseCar.uk said: “With more Brits staying in the UK this summer, wild swimming is another activity you can try and one where you may not be surrounded by hundreds of other people.

“You can take some really beautiful drives down to these swimming locations which will  make you feel like you’re abroad. It’s the perfect day trip out especially when the weather is scorching.

“Wild swimming is a great way to get  outdoors and be surrounded by nature. Even if it’s something you’ve never done before it can be a really great and different experience.

“You can’t just swim in any natural waters though, there are some dangers to consider like sailboats and the depth of water which is why we’ve researched some of the best and safest places that do allow wild swimming.”
