Joining Anthony Taylor and his team, Wiltshire referee, Adam Nunn, has been selected to officiate at this summer’s UEFA EURO 2020 tournament.
Two English referees have been selected, Anthony Taylor who will be joined by his assistants Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, and Michael Oliver whose team includes assistants Simon Bennett and Stuart Burt.
In addition to that, Stuart Attwell, Chris Kavanagh and Lee Betts have been selected as video match officials (VARs) in what is a strong representation at the competition for English officials.
Adam Nunn, PGMOL Referee said, “It is a very proud moment for our team, to represent England at the Euros is like a dream come true.
“We have worked really hard to get here, and we will continue to maintain our work ethic throughout the tournament. This year, with the competition being held across the continent, I know it is going to be demanding with travel and recovery to factor in, but I am thrilled to have this experience.”
Preparations for the Officials for UEFA EURO 2020 began with a course in May which took place in Istanbul.
Returning to Turkey this week, the referees, referee assistants and support referees will stay in their base camp until completion of the quarter-finals, after which the remaining match officials will move to London for the final three matches.
Ella Broad, Football Assistant at Wiltshire FA said, “It is great to hear about Adam’s successes. We recently congratulated him on his FA Cup Final appointment and now we look forward to seeing him in action in the EUROS tournament.
“It is a great message for all our referees, there are lots of opportunities and strong development pathways for referees, and Adam’s journey shows that hard work can pay off.
“We will enjoy watching the matches and wish Adam, and the team, the very best of luck for a successful tournament.”
Energy builds as the UEFA EUROS 2020 group stages get underway tonight with plenty of games to get excited about.
Ella concludes, “As the nation follow the competition, we expect to see a positive impact in the grassroots game. As we recover from the difficulties Covid-19 has brought, I hope the EUROS inspire future generations of players and referees.”
