MENDIP: Cedars Hall gets festive…

Mendip Living’s Ade Hill meets Sue Bartucca and discovers more about Cedars Hall and what’s on this festive season!

Tell us a little bit about Cedars Hall?

Opened in 2016 as a state-of-the-art performance venue, Cedars Hall is a modern and acoustically magnificent building, only 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of Wells.

Of course, the last year has been tough for everyone. How pleased are you to see the hall open again?

We are delighted to be able to run events again – although we successfully hosted the Wells Festival of Literature in 2020 before the second lockdown.

How is Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis associated with the hall?

Michael Eavis was a pupil at Wells Cathedral School and officially opened Cedars Hall in 2016 – the main auditorium is named after him. We have hosted several events for him and he is a regular visitor and supporter.

You’ve got some fabulous events planned this December, including an ABBA tribute band?

Yes – ABBA Sensation played in the hall in the summer and were so popular that we asked them back for a Christmas special. We also have the Alex Western-King Quartet – a modern jazz group performing a new album – and the infectious enthusiasm of world music star Kanda Bongo Man, who will get the party going!

If I want to book tickets, what covid precautions do I need to be aware of?

Cedars Hall has a fresh air ventilation system so the air constantly refreshes. We are operating as normal; however, we are asking our audience to wear masks when moving around, we have extra cleaning measures in place and we are encouraging people to test themselves before they attend an event.

How is 2022 looking like in terms of events?

We have an exciting line-up planned for 2022 – with jazz (Tom Ollendorff Trio), classical (Imogen Cooper), country (Katy Hurt) and folk (The Gigspanner Big Band) music, as well as talks and family events.

How can I find out more about Cedars Hall?
