BRISTOL: GCSE results success for Colston’s Year 11s

Pupils, staff and parents are celebrating following an excellent set of results achieved by Colston’s Year 11s…

Due to the determined effort and resilience shown by these students, coupled with the incredible support provided by their teachers and parents, this cohort has risen to the challenge and once again excelled.

With the Government’s promise that this year’s results would sit between the last set of “normal” results from 2019 and the TAGs (Teacher Assessed Grades) of 2021, the following headline results demonstrate that Colston’s students have exceeded expectation:

  • 58% of grades at 7 to 9
  • 17% of grades were 9s
  • 24% of students achieved all their grades at 7 or above

Colston’s Headmaster, Mr Jeremy McCullough, said: “While it is important to remember that our students always learn far more than simply what is required to pass exams, it is certainly very rewarding to see them achieve such good examination results.

“This cohort have faced a number of very real challenges during the past two years but they have, with the amazing support of their teachers, risen to all of these challenges and have reaped the rewards of their hard work. By returning results higher than might have been expected following the government’s direction to lower results this year, they have demonstrated just how well they have coped with the academic challenges presented.”

Mr McCullough continued: “We know that these brilliant young people have also excelled in sport, music, drama and other areas too. In addition, their holistic education will have helped them develop a great many other personal qualities, such as resilience and determination, that will stand them in good stead for the future. We look forward to welcoming the majority of students back in September as they begin their Sixth Form journey with us, and we are excited to be joined by a strong cohort of candidates from other schools.”
