FOOD & DRINK: Maud Heath Vineyard produce star wine…

Frequently listed as a star wine by Matthew Jukes of the Daily Mail, and hailed by the paper as ‘The best red wine in the country’, featured as a top wine in The Independent, and mentioned in Oz Clarke’s book, Maud Heath Vineyard’s Tytherton Red is a real treat.

Full bodied by comparison to other English wines despite being Pinot Noir dominant, an incredibly difficult grape to grow in England as it often ends up too light, however with the microclimate of this unique site, this wine beats the odds of growing a top red in England.

Winner of Decanter and IWC awards, not only is this wine of quality within England but on the world stage. Deep crimson red in colour, with aromas of cassis and red plum on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with a soft, silky texture, and a subtle hint of spice from the oak, which leads to a long, moreish finish. The wine has been gently aged in French oak barrels for five months, to add more depth and complexity. Looking for a vegan or vegetarian option? Then this wine is also for you.

You can find this smooth local wine at Waitrose in Marlborough, and other Waitrose stores within the area, as well as online at Waitrose Wine Cellar.
