House & Home: Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring cleaning in the UK can be a refreshing way to welcome the warmer weather and give your home a fresh start. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. Decluttering: Begin by going through each room and getting rid of items you no longer need or use. Consider donating clothes, books, toys, and household items to charity or recycling them responsibly.
  2. Deep Clean Carpets and Rugs: Rent a carpet cleaner, buy your own (we love this Vax) hire a professional service to deep clean your carpets and rugs. This helps remove built-up dirt, dust, and allergens, leaving your floors looking and feeling fresh. There are few things in life as satisfying as the dirty water as you go!
  3. Dust and Polish Surfaces: Dust all surfaces including shelves, countertops, and furniture. Use a microfibre cloth or electrostatic duster to trap dust particles effectively. Polish wooden surfaces to restore shine.
  4. Clean Windows and Window Treatments: Wash windows inside and out to let in more natural light. Don’t forget to clean window frames and sills. Dust or vacuum window treatments such as curtains and blinds, or launder them if they are machine washable.
  5. Kitchen Refresh: Clean out your kitchen cabinets and pantry – get rid of expired items and organise what’s left. Deep clean appliances including the oven, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Wipe down kitchen surfaces and backsplashes.
  6. Bathroom Revamp: Scrub the bathroom tiles, grout, bathtub, shower, and toilet. Replace shower curtains or clean and sanitise shower doors. Organise cabinets and drawers, discarding any old or unused toiletries.
  7. Freshen Up Bedding: Launder all bedding including sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and mattress protectors. Consider rotating or flipping your mattress for even wear.
  8. Outdoor Cleaning: Sweep or power wash outdoor pathways, patios, and decks. Clean outdoor furniture and cushions, and get your garden tools ready for spring gardening.
  9. Check Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are functioning properly. Replace batteries if needed.
  10. Organise and Tidy Up: Take this opportunity to reorganise closets, cabinets, and storage areas. Invest in storage solutions such as bins, baskets, and drawer organisers to keep items tidy and easily accessible.
